Mentoring

What is One-on-One Mentoring?

Sharing Christ’s Heart with the Next Generation

At ChristGospel.tv, mentoring is more than “helping out”. It is joining Christ in His work of loving, restoring and raising children who are precious to Him.

We believe every child is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and that the Lord pays special attention to the orphan, the vulnerable and the overlooked (Psalm 68:5–6; James 1:27). When you volunteer as a mentor, you are not simply filling a role – you are responding to a calling to reflect the Father’s heart to His little ones.

“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine,
you did for me.”
– Matthew 25:40

One-on-one mentoring is a powerful way of transforming the lives of vulnerable children. At ChristGospel.tv, we believe in the impact of pairing a caring adult with a child who needs guidance, support, and a positive role model.

The Theology Behind What We Do

Imago Dei – Every child has God-given dignity

We treat each child with honour, patience and respect because they bear God’s image (Genesis 1:26–27), regardless of their background or behaviour.

Justice and Mercy – God cares for the vulnerable

Scripture repeatedly calls God’s people to defend and care for orphans, widows and the poor (Isaiah 1:17; James 1:27). Serving here is a practical expression of biblical justice and mercy.

The Body of Christ – We need one another

No single mentor has all the answers. Together, as the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12–27), we bring different gifts so that children receive balanced, healthy support – emotionally, academically and spiritually.

The Great Commission – Making disciples of all nations

Mentoring is one way we obey Jesus’ command to “make disciples” (Matthew 28:19–20), starting with the most reachable and yet often most neglected: children and young people.

The Fruit of the Spirit – Christ’s character in us

We rely on the Holy Spirit to produce in us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23) as we walk with each child.

Why is One-on-One Mentoring Important?

For children who have experienced adversity or who lack positive role models, one-on-one mentoring can provide:

God’s Heart for Children

Jesus did not push children to the side; He brought them to the centre: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” – Mark 10:14 Many of the children we serve have experienced loss, instability, or deep disappointment. Christian mentoring becomes a living picture of Christ’s welcome – a safe, consistent and loving presence that says: “You are seen.” “You are loved.” “You are not alone.”

Mentoring as Discipleship

In Scripture, God often works through relationships across generations: Moses and Joshua (Deuteronomy 31:7–8) Naomi and Ruth (Ruth 1–4) Elijah and Elisha (2 Kings 2) Paul and Timothy (2 Timothy 1:2–7) Christian mentoring follows this same pattern. It is discipleship in everyday life – helping a young person to: Discover their God-given value and identity in Christ Grow in wisdom, character and practical life skills Learn how to bring their fears, hopes and questions to God See faith not just as words, but as a way of life “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” – Hebrews 10:24

A Foretaste of God’s Family

The Gospel tells us that in Christ we are adopted into God’s family (Ephesians 1:5). Many of the children we support know what it is to feel abandoned, rejected or forgotten. A Christian mentor becomes a signpost of God’s adopting love – not replacing a parent, but embodying the truth that in God’s family no one is left out, and no one is disposable.

Who Can Volunteer or Mentor?

We are looking for men and women who:

  • Have a living faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to follow Him

  • Are committed to regular prayer for the children they support

  • Are part of, or seeking to be part of, a local church community

  • Can offer time consistently (for example, one or two hours a week or as agreed)

  • Are willing to be trained, supervised and accountable

  • Agree to and respect our safeguarding and child protection policies

We welcome mentors and volunteers from different cultures and backgrounds, united by a shared commitment to Christ and His Word.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” – Colossians 3:23

What Does a ChristGospel.tv Mentor Do?

As a mentor or volunteer, you will help to create a safe, Christ-centred environment where children can grow. Depending on your gifts and availability, this might include:

  • One-to-one or small-group mentoring
Listening, encouraging, helping with life choices and goals, praying with and for the child.

  • Academic and practical support
Supporting homework, literacy and numeracy, exam preparation and study habits – always with encouragement, not pressure.

  • Spiritual guidance
Sharing Bible stories, praying together, answering questions about faith, modelling what it looks like to walk with Jesus in everyday life.

  • Life skills and confidence-building
Helping children grow in self-worth, communication, resilience, and wise decision-making.

  • Serving within programmes
Assisting in educational support, family support, outreach events, or spiritual development programmes – always under clear guidance and safeguarding policies.

You are not expected to be a counsellor, social worker or theologian. You are asked to be present, consistent, teachable and Christ-like.

MESSAGE

A Final Word

To volunteer or mentor with ChristGospel.tv is to step into God’s story for some of the most vulnerable children in our communities. It is to say:

“Lord Jesus, use my life to show Your love,
Your compassion and Your truth to a child who needs You.”

If that resonates with your heart, we would love to hear from you.
